On November 30, 2010 Fr. Athanasius Ghebre-Ab celebrated his first Divine Liturgy at Saint Nicholas and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. As our readers recall, Fr. Athanasius (formerly Prof. Habtu Ghebre-Ab) was ordained a priest on July 24, 2010.

On Friday, December 25, 2020, the beloved Hegumen (komos) Araya Tesfay departed to be with the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 87. Right after Eritrea declared independence in 1993, Hegumen Araya was the first priest to be sent oversea by Patriarch Philipos to serve in the USA and he was the priest of St. Gabriel Church of New York for 27 years.
The funeral service will be on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Saint Mark Coptic Orthodox Church, 7075 S Revere Pky, Centennial, CO, 80112. Because of COVID-19, attendance will be limited but the funeral service will be live streamed directly here.

እዛ ቃል እዚኣ ንመጀመርታ ጊዜ (ቦኽሪ እዝነይ) ዝሰማዕክዋ ኣብቲ ምድረ በዳን ምድረ ፍዳን ዝኾነ ሳዋ ዝበሃል ቦታ መደንዘዝን መልመስን መንእሰያት ኤርትራ ኣብ መወዳእታ ወርሒ ታሕሳስ 1997 ዓ.ም.ፈ እዩ ዝነበረ። ሓደ ወተሃደራዊ በዓል ሥልጣን ኤርትራ ከቢድ መልእኽቱ ከመሓላልፍ ከሎ፡ ከምዚ ኮይነ፥ ከምዚ ኣሎኒ፥ ዝብል ዝኾነ ምኽንያት ቅቡል ኣይኮነን። ንኽትፈልጡ ኣብዚ ክልተ ትእዛዝ ጥራይ እየን ዘለዋ “ግበር ወይ ኣይትግበር ” ዝብላ፥ "ካብዚ ወጻኢ ንዝኸደ ምሕረት ዝበሃል የሎን። ካብ ኢድ ሰይጣን ምሕረት ኣይትጸበ።" ክብል ኃይለ-ቃል ዘለዎ ከቢድ መጠንቀቕታ ሂቡና ናብ ቦትኡ ተዓዝረ። ካብታ መዓልቲ እቲኣ ድማ፡ እምበኣር ኣብ ኢድ ሰይጣን ኢና ኣቲና ዘሎና ብዝብል ሓሳብ ብሓቂ ልበይ ስለ ዝተጎድአ ኣምላኽ ብምሕረቱ ካብቲ ዘፍርሕ ዓዘቕትን ከቢድ መግዛእትን መዋጽኦ ክፈጥረልና ወትሩ ብጸሎት ይልምን ነበርኩ። ነታ ከባድ ቃል በዓል ሥልጣን ህግደፍ ዝተዛረባ ክኣ እንሆ ክሳብ ሎሚ ንልዕሊ 22 (ዕስራን ክልተን) ዓመታት ብፍጹም ክርስዓ ኣይከኣልኩን።

Deacon Professor Habtu Ghebre-Ab was ordained on Saturday, July 24, 2010 in the Greek Orthodox Church in Stamford, Connecticut and was given the name Fr. Athanasius. Fr. Athanasius was ordained by H.G. Bishop Makarios, General Bishop of the Coptic Orthodox Church and of the Eritrean Orthodox Church, North America Diocese, and His Eminence Metropolitan Seraphim of the British Coptic Orthodox Church. The solemn ceremony took place in the presence of several priests, a large choir of deacons and a multitude of the faithful from across North America.
